If you’re new to my writing, a wall of books might look confusing or intimidating, or it might be hard to tell at a glance where to start or which series would be the best fit for you.
I am a fantasy and science fiction writer, dabbling in various subgenres, but all my books fall loosely into “cozy dark” (if you’re curious how books can be both cozy and dark, here’s an explanation). In my books, you can expect complex stories, mature and competent characters, and usually some spins on well-known tropes.
Each of my series is self-contained, meaning you can start reading any book one in any series without knowledge of my other works. Other than that, it just depends on what you’re in the mood for, so here’s a quick rundown of what each series is.
Pacts Arcane and Otherwise
An epic fantasy series with a strong friendship at the center that doesn’t turn into romance but has a lot of friendly banter, competent adult characters (though I suppose Ryell is an exception), dual magic system, and a lot of intrigue and politics with relatively complex world building. It’s told in the 3rd person from multiple POVs, including the villains, and they all interconnect from the beginning. There is no main bad guy. Instead, there are several baddies who sometimes play against each other or even change sides, and the story continues through all four books rather than being a series of standalone books that each has its antagonists and story arc.
Shadows of Eireland
An urban fantasy series set in an alternate Dublin, Ireland, with authentic locations, since I lived there for years. It’s told in one 1st person POV, and it’s focused on building bridges between former enemies. Friendly banter, found families, and secrets from the past are the focus. The romance is present, but in the background, and it’s between mature people who don’t constantly argue. While the first book can be read as a standalone, the two following build on the initial book and the problems mentioned in it rather than being different stories.
Memories of Sorcery and Sand
This standalone portal fantasy thriller is perhaps the oddest of all my books. The main character has lost her memories, and the story is told in dual timelines, in the 1st and 3rd POV respectively for the present timeline and for the past one. It’s a slow building plot that offers twists reframing the events from the past and leading to a reveal in the finale. It’s a character-focused story about 4 people who told lies in the past, keeping secrets from each other, and the consequences of their choices and actions. Romantic entanglement is present, but it’s about having fallen in love at the worst possible time with possibly the wrong person, and not about the “will they/won’t they” dynamics.
Sanguine Saga
A friendship and adventure focused series about three people with different goals brought together by circumstances: a researcher who’s trying to avoid adventures, an Oathed who tried to bring order and justice to the land, and an adventure-loving rogue whose wide smile might hide a secret or two. The world building is on the more complex side, and the magic is blood-based. It’s told in the 3rd person POV, and there’s no significant romance in the series.
