SciFiMonth: Wrap Up

This post is a part of SciFiMonth by Lisa from Dear Geek Place and Imyril from One More, celebrating all things science fiction. Join us on Twitter at #SciFiMonth and check out all the posts!

If you’ve read my introduction post, you know that I wanted to join SciFiMonth for a couple of years now, and despite uncooperative aura, I finally made it onboard this month! My first flight with the wonderful SciFiMonth crew was quite a turbulent due to unforeseen events, but in the end, I landed safely.

Revisiting books I’ve read

I managed 3 out of 4 posts I had planned for this month. The fourth one slipped, but when you call your doctor on a Thursday, and they tell you that they can do your wisdom extraction on the upcoming Monday, it’s bound to affect your schedule. I did, though, share a piece of scifi-related art on that day. Can you guess which tv series it was inspired by?

Nevertheless, I immensely enjoyed revisiting books I’ve read, some of them among my firm favorites despite two decades that it’s been since I’ve discovered them. I was happy to share them and learn that others love them as well (it’s always a treat to find a fellow Hyperion fan).

I also got to share a post I’ve been meaning to write for ages: which Polish science fiction I’d love to see translated into English. I’m sure I missed quite a few interesting books from my homeland, but I wanted to at least give English-speaking readers a taste of what Polish writers have to offer.

Finally, I got to once more dive into books exploring human relations with alien species from various angles… and at various levels of hostility.

What did I miss?

Between my regular work and recovering from the surgery, I didn’t get much time to explore the cornucopia of other posts. Few had caught my eye, but I’d loved to have dived into more of them. Hopefully, I’ll be able to do it in the future.
I also didn’t get to share my video games-related post. It’s not lost forever, though! It gave me an idea for a several more, and perhaps next year, I’ll be make the whole month dedicated to science fiction video games. Or maybe movies? My head is buzzing with ideas, and if all goes well, I’ll be better prepared to board the SciFiMonth ship in 2021. Huge thanks for Lisa and Imyril for hosting this wonderful event, boosting the signal, and bringing all the science fiction fans together. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Urg! So sorry to hear about the wisdom tooth extraction – mouth ops are always so darned painful! I’m very much hoping, seeing as I’ve arrived here RIDICULOUSLY late, that it all went smoothly and you are completely recovered! Glad you had at least the chance to take part. I always love the buzz and being a part of it, though for family reasons, this year I also wasn’t in a position to get as engrossed as usual. I’m hoping that by November of this year, I’ll be in a MUCH better place!

As for arriving late… I don’t think you can say you’re late to someone who reads your blog posts a year or so after they’re published (and that’s despite her plans to catch up!).
I’m actually a person who takes no numbing for my fillings and cleaning, but I opted for full anesthesia for the wisdom teeth extraction: I have a small mouth/jaw and a terrible choking reaction, so I figured it would be easier both on me and the surgeon.
I’ve recovered fine, and surprisingly, there was very little pain afterwards.
I’m hoping that this year I’ll be able to join SciFi Month again, and we’ll be enjoying it together!
