Back in March 2022, a writer friend introduced me to 3D art and rendering, and ever since, I’ve been exploring it, teaching myself the intricacies of producing good renders such as posing, lighting, and post work. In December 2022, I decided it was time to share what I accomplished, so I started posting images I created to social media.
This post collects all the pieces from the two month period, and I intend for it to be a start of a recurring series for all those who are too busy to keep up with social media posts. If you’d rather see them as they come, new images are posted on my Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon every Wednesday.
You can view all the posts by browsing the 3D Art category.
Hostile Territory

Since it was National Science Fiction Day on January 2nd, I had a related render. “Hostile Territory” was, as often, a way for me to test new ideas, new 3d models, and new way of doing postwork.
Can’t You See I’m in the Middle of a Spell?!

This render was a remake of another render I did but didn’t like. I changed lights and adjusted posing, and it turned out much better. “Can’t you see I’m in the middle of a spell?!” “But Mistress! We seem to have a problem with one of our guests…”
Medusa

Do you like the story of Medusa? Not much story behind this one except for me trying out new medusa model and the petrification effects. Then, it was fun to try to make it look a little bit more like an illustration.
The Tears Won’t Stop

This isn’t my usual 3d work, but some months ago I was in a bad place emotionally, I needed something to express my feelings. Locking them up in an image turned out the best therapy, even if getting the emotion just right proved challenging. But finally she was crying, not me.
Dimensional Collapse

This is another image that isn’t something I usually do, but I wanted to have fun with a new corridor model and also try out the alien. The original render looked a bit too plain and too tidy, but this is what postwork is for, right?
Storm is Coming

This render was fun. I was inspired by westerns, and I wanted to created something in this vein. There was very little postwork as I wanted to keep that cinematic feel of the image.
Afternoon Daydream

Not all my renders are challenges to myself. Sometimes I just want to make “something nice and simple,” like this woman sitting in a garden and daydreaming.
Welcome to the Show

Sometimes, making a fun image is more about compositing rather than rendering a full image. In here, only the woman and the moon are 3d models. The rest is 2d postwork. I was aiming for the 1920s vibe with this one, and I was happy how it turned out.
Not Alone?

This render is simple: a setting, a woman & her outfit, and a fog prop. But playing with the light and trying to find its right angle was the real fun to me. Very little postwork here as well, only slight color adjustment and tiny poke through fixes.
