Back in March 2022, a writer friend introduced me to 3D art and rendering, and ever since, I’ve been exploring it, teaching myself the intricacies of producing good renders such as posing, lighting, and post work. In December 2022, I decided it was time to share what I accomplished, so I started posting images I created to social media.
This post collects all the pieces from the two month period, and I intend for it to be a start of a recurring series for all those who are too busy to keep up with social media posts. If you’d rather see them as they come, new images are posted on my Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon every Wednesday.
You can view all the posts by browsing the 3D Art category.
Queen of Winter

This one was one of my last year’s favorite renders. Though, the only part rendered is the queen of the dark herself. The rest was added in post work, and I can tell you I had immense fun making all the pieces work together.
Battlecry

This image took a lot of work. I rendered it three times, changing poses, angles, and lighting, and then there was a lot of postwork too, but I was really happy with how it turned out.
Dark Angel

This render is another example of when I render a figure alone and add composite backgrounds in postwork. When I started, I was just testing a new model and had no idea where it would go, so I was quite surprised by the outcome.
Lady Winterdark

This portrait might not look like much, but “Lady Winterdark” is one of my favorite renders. She’s my original character made by mixing several models with a skin of yet another model. I think she has a lot of personality to her, but I’m not sure it would be wise to cross her.
Aerial Combat

This image was one of those I had to render in pieces and composite together in Affinity, because the whole image was killing my PC. I think it was worth the effort, though, and postwork just enhanced everything.
The Priestess

The Priestess is one of those renders that started okay, but weren’t anything special. But then, I started playing with postwork, adding textures, colors, rays… and here it is. Something I was really happy with when I was done.
The Hunter

This render was me just testing the character and the outfit. I picked a random pose, added some background… but only in postwork it became real fun.
The Artificer

This render was something that… never went anywhere. I played and tested new models and brushes, but in the end, I wasn’t happy with the outcome. I’m sharing it anyway, because I like to show that not everything turns out the way you hope.
Getting Water

Sometimes, it’s just playing around and making something cute, and when it doesn’t look good enough, there’s always postwork, so “Getting Water” actually combines 3d models and 3d art.
