The Wordwitch: A Writer’s Life in Pictures – October

In October, I was busy drawing dragonflies some of you have already seen on my Facebook page or Instagram as I was taking part in the #Inktober challenge, but it didn’t mean that I forgot about the Wordwitch.

Ignoring the Whispers

That day, I woke up to a whisper in my head saying, “You will fail.” Yet, I got up, and had a very productive and creative day. Because strength isn’t about not having fears or doubts. It’s about working despite them.
So, sorry, evil whisper. The procrastigoblin will see you to the door now.

A Freelancer’s Workload

Sometimes, I disappear from social media. In case you’re wondering what’s going on, stage 2 is a safe bet.

Squirreling Ideas Away

This drawing was inspired by Jessa Kent (check her on Twitter: @JessaKent!) who found inspiration in one of my dragonflies and said she’d “squirrel it away”.

And she’s right: writers supposedly never run out of ideas, but we still store ALL OF THEM. You know, just in case.

Happy Halloween

Like every year for some time now, I carved a pumpkin, and stories are always brewing, no matter whether it’s Halloween or not.

Hey, you employed the procrastrigoblin to actually WORK as your butler? It’s like the saint who forced the devil to hold the candle while he was writing his theological treatise! Respect. You are a true witch.

Procrastigoblins have to eat too… And if it wants me to procrastinate, someone else has got to do the work, right? 😀

What a wonderful series of pictures… I love the idea of the procrastigoblin forced into service on your behalf. And the ideas tucked away in a tree is a also fab – I didn’t stop to write one down last week and now I’ve lost it, curse it! So I need an ideas squirrel, too… Have a wonderful November, Joanna – and thank you for cheering me up with your lovely artwork.

Thank you for your kind words, Sara. It really motivates me to keep up with the drawings (though I do slip here and there) when I see others being amused and entertained, or simply relating to them. 🙂

Yes! I love the way you encapsulate so many of the issues that plague writers and give a compassionate, amusing take on those problems. Thank you:))

I agree with Alchemy Ocelot, who also has the best name I’ve ever seen! Nice one getting the procrastigoblin to work ‘with’ you 😀

You know, if you can’t fight them, join them! 😉

Yes! So long, evil whispers! And like Alchemy Ocelot and J.R. Bee said, good for you for putting that procrastigoblin to good use. 😉

On a related note, your dragonfly drawings for Inktober were adorable! I didn’t have time to comment on each one, but I think I saw just about all of them, and they put a smile on my face each day. 🙂

Thank you, Sara! I made a video of all of them, and working steadily to clean them up for digital version. Hoping to go back to drawing them too at some point.
