Joanna’s 3D Art: September & October 2024

Back in March 2022, a writer friend introduced me to 3D art and rendering, and ever since, I’ve been exploring it, teaching myself the intricacies of producing good renders such as posing, lighting, and post work. In December 2022, I decided it was time to share what I accomplished, so I started posting images I created to social media.

This post collects all the pieces from the two month period, and I intend for it to be a start of a recurring series for all those who are too busy to keep up with social media posts. If you’d rather see them as they come, new images are posted on my Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon every Wednesday.

You can view all the posts by browsing the 3D Art category.

I collect all my spooky, creepy, and horror-y renders from the year to share them in September and October, in celebration of the spooky season.

Happy Afterlife

An image of a female ghost and a little creature walking through a creepy foggy forest.

Not much story behind this one: just me, playing with the models I have. Since there was some confusion about the creature who accompanies the happy ghost, I promised to share a different version of him after the spooky season.

The Hunter

A silhouette of a man holding a crossbow and a dog by his side among the silhouettes of bare trees with the light and birds coming from behind them.

One of my favorite renders of this year: the hunter (and his faithful dog). It started, like many other of my renders, with me just playing around with assets that slowly came together into an image.

Shaman

A shaman woman crouching on a wooden bridge in the middle of a swamp.

As many of my works, it stemmed from playing around with different assets I had and putting them together, then playing with colors in postwork. What do you think?

Ooopsie!

A little witch in an attic covered in cobwebs, with a cat watching her and a tentacle sticking out of an old cauldron.

A little witch getting in trouble. This one was fun to make, with simulating the webs to drape around her body.

Not the Cat!

a (sinking) witch and a cat (magically pulled away from her)

If all you see is black in today’s render, rest assured that there’s a (sinking) witch and a cat (magically pulled away from her) in this picture. I suppose it fits the spooky themes all the more, right?

Haunted House

A creepy woman in front of a snowy landscape with bamboo and old Japanese building.

Every now and then, I come up with some weird and unlikely idea, and this render was just it, but it was the postwork that made this incoherent mix of assets into something interesting, even if still on the weird side. It felt perfect for the spooky season.

Her Last Concert

A coprse dressed in a nice dress performs on a violin in the middle of ruins in a forest.

This image was something that came to me when I looked at this particular model, and then it all just came together. Though I still don’t know what kind of story it tells…

In the Midst

A ghastly looking woman holding a lantern from which rises a purple magical light and smoke.

For the last render of the spooky season, I shared one of my favorites. It started as an exercise with my husband to improve posing, and ended with merging rendered light and mist effects with the ones added in post work. Including rendering, it took 2 days to complete.

I hope you enjoyed this collection. Which one is your favorite? And remember, new images are posted on my Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon every Wednesday.

I’m glad you do! There will be more. (And I’m already collecting spooky renders for the next year’s series.)
