Back in March 2022, a writer friend introduced me to 3D art and rendering, and ever since, I’ve been exploring it, teaching myself the intricacies of producing good renders such as posing, lighting, and post work. In December 2022, I decided it was time to share what I accomplished, so I started posting images I created to social media.
This post collects all the pieces from the two month period, and I intend for it to be a start of a recurring series for all those who are too busy to keep up with social media posts. If you’d rather see them as they come, new images are posted on my Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon every Wednesday.

Corruption

In this 3d render, I was trying to use some of the flowers I have, but I didn’t want something boring and idyllic. This is how the corrupted stone came to be, and it took some work in 2d and rendering in pieces to get this image to its final look.
Old Magic

This 3d render was a lot of fun, and I loved the model of an old character (too bad some of her details get lost in the small image size). Getting the colors and the mood right was something I worked in 2d, adding a background that wasn’t in the original render.
Underneath

Making art is as much about fun as it is about discovering new things, perspectives, or techniques. Playing around with what’s known and comfortable and often making a jump into something new. This image, “Underwater,” was such an exploration for me.
Cyber Wars

While I love setting up my renders, I also love playing with postwork and digital 2d art. The only 3d models in this image are the woman and the window of the spaceship. Everything else was done in 2d, and I had a lot of fun with it.
Aren’t You Too Small to Wander the Woods?

This was one of the first images I rendered on my new PC. It was to test the GPU: the environment was massive, the wolf had a lot of fur, and the fog filtering light was something that could be a rendering challenge too. Needless to say, the test was a total success.
Electric Magic

Sometimes, my renders are simple: just a 3D model and light set up with the background and a flare added in post-work, but they still come out interesting (well, interesting to me). “Electric Magic” was one of such renders where I just played with my 3D models. What do you think?
Unbroken Will

This render was fun. I intentionally rendered it in a very orange hue and then tone it all down to only bring out the orange where I wanted it. I also wanted to make it feel a bit movie-like. Did I succeed?
Born of Flame

It’s not secret that I’m a huge fan of mixing 3D and 2D art. In this case, all I rendered was the 3D models of the woman and the flame. The rest was done in Affinity Photo by layering brushes, textures, and effects. Yes, I had a lot of fun.
Balance

Another Wednesday, another render. There isn’t much story behind this image: I just had an idea of Yin and Yang-like dragons composition. Let me tell you that getting their poses just right was a pain, especially to make sure the details were clear enough.
